Let’s talk about different types of graphics that will create effective advertising mediums at events and tradeshows. In this series I will discuss the pros and cons of the following products: bus graphics, headrest covers, street or sidewalk graphics, banners, stair graphics, mobile media trucks and PopOut maps. Like anything, there is a right way and a wrong way to advertise at events. (or, at leased one way and a better way)

Bus graphics… Bus graphics have the potential to be one of the highest impact ad mediums available for event marketing out there. The problem with most bus graphic advertisements is they do not take full advantage of the opportunity available with this type of product. Like any advertisement the effective ones are the memorable ones. The bus graphics below are both full wraps and therefore cost the same, however as you can imagine, one created more buzz and I venture to say a larger ROI (Return on Investment) for the sponsor.

Another example, this time with ribbons…

The point… Bus graphics are like any other ad media. The more creative the ad, the more effective the campaign. I believe if bus graphics are creatively designed and professionally installed, the advertiser will realize and tremendously successful attendee response.

During the 10 plus years I have been providing event marketing solutions, I have found that for many destination management companies and meeting planners the idea of offering sponsorship options seems either to much hassle and not worth the effort or to intimidating to know how and where to start. I thought I would take some time to share some insights and dispel a few myths that may be lingering out there. When done right, event marketing and sponsorship programs are a “Win Win” situation.

Potential sponsors fall into two categories, namely, corporate and association. Corporate events are easily defined as events that are put on and funded by a single company. For instance IBM’s “Partner World”, an event IBM puts on each year, to promote the company and it’s products. At these events companies are constantly seeking new and innovative solutions to the question “How do I get the biggest bang for my buck”. The products Techjet Imaging produces for this type of marketing are classified as “High Impact” mediums. Products such as bus wraps, building wraps, mega-banners, and street graphics. The value of the impression from one of these products is exponentially greater then the traditional “out of home ” ad medias.

The second category, association events, is unique because associations usually raise money through out the year through dues and other avenues to fund their annual events and conferences and thus feel limited to the sometime meager budgets allocated for their events. Associations, however pose the greater opportunity for graphics used as available sponsorship avenues. With help from the Techjet Imaging Event team, a DMC or Meeting Planners could design an effective event marketing package with outstanding ROI. This approach will add tremendous value to you services and temper the sting of rising transportation costs for the association. “Win Win”

In the following series I will explore new and effective event marketing products currently on the market. What works and what doesn’t. And I will share some case studies of the successes I have seen in the last few years.

Well, Techjet Imaging has printed another, very cool, maze for Seattle based Minotaur Maze Exhibits. I believe that makes eight jobs I have printed for them.

Minotaur chooses Techjet to print the 10 & 13 oz. banner material that will become the walls of their mazes because of our “Greener” print production methods. Due to our Ultra Violet Cured Inks, the graphics printed for Minotaur do not release harmful VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) into the environment, or in laymen terms, those strong solvent smells long associated with large format digital printing. This is especially comforting know since children will be up close and interacting with the vibrant graphics that bring these mazes to life.

The mazes have themes like Jane Goodall’ s chimpanzees, Dinosaurs, life under the sea and geo caching. The theme for this latest maze is the adventures of the first settlers in Jamestown Virginia. The maze is an exhibit at the Jamestown interpretive center.

For this project those who travel through the maze receive an identity of one of the settlers in Jamestown and navigate the maze making decisions concerning food, shelter and many other decisions crucial to survival in 17th century America. Depending on the path taken some survived, some perished, but all learned a great deal about life in the birthplace of our nation. Have a look at some of the pictures and next time you are in Jamestown check it out.
